They are painted but not stained. Staining them tones them down a bit...do they look like they're having too much fun?

Gourdon Squash Head- A work in Progress

I thought I'd share another one of my WIP photos. Gourdon is a lot of fun to work on! To me, he just seems like a fellow with a lot of personality, at least that what I'm shootin' for!



I've decided that Squash Heads are mischievous little characters who like nothing better than to scare carrots...yes, that's what I said. Sometimes they even pull them out of the ground! They never really hurt them, they just think scared carrots are incredibly funny! Squash Heads are known to emit a horrible Banshee sounding laugh that can be quite irritating whenever they scare a carrot.

But no worries, they never hurt the little fellows. Just scare them, laugh and put them down...not the hateful sort who cooks 'em in a pot.

Oh my...now see what I've done?...I be you want to see what a scared carrot looks like....stay tuned and you will find out.

Etienne' Debuts for Screampunk!

Well, my latest paper clay head doll made her debut on Ebay for The EHAG - PFATT
Steampunk Challenge. She was a fun piece to do...what with combining Victorian with a kind of Techno Halloween Witch theme. I hope you like her. Please leave comments to let me know... Along with her description and pics, I have written a silly little verse:

ETIENNE
A Sassy old hag from the Bayou,
smiled as she chanted her Voodoo.
She returned to the swamp with a "THUD" and a "STOMP",
Set down bags of bones for her menu!!!





Etienne is part paper mac he and part soft sculpture doll. She stands 19 inches tall with her hat on and about 13 inches when sitting. Her body is made of muslin that has been stuffed and weighted for sitting. Etienne‘s arms are detailed in acrylic paint and lightly wired for posing and holding very light objects. She wears silver gloves that have been painted and beaded.




Her white curly hair is pulled to the side and tied with a stylish silver bow that has the cutest little cloth bat on it. In addition, her hair is streaked with grey. Etienne‘s hat is made of felt that gives it a velvety texture, accented with lace, ribbon, and beads. This unique “Screampunk” witches’ hat is very stylish and features such items as gears, a time piece and skulls with its feather plume are all the rage!



Her legs are painted with black and silver striped stockings and skinny little boots adorned with ribbon and beads to match her outfit. Etienne‘s legs can also be positioned to sit in different ways. Although she displays very well standing with the use of a doll stand, I prefer to sit her and pose her legs crossed Sometimes, after shipping, the weight bag inside shifts a little and one may have to set the doll down with a little “thump” to reposition the weights.




Her bodice is made of a velvety fabric that features a kind of Harlequin pattern in sliver and metallic gold. She wears a feather boa collar and lapel adorned with silver and black lace, ribbon and gold beads.


Her over skirt is of silver spider webbed fabric that is flounced all around and accented with skeleton keys. The rest of her dress a metallic black fabric skirt featuring silver metallic skull and cross bones. Etienne‘s gathered ruffled pantaloons are adorned with gold bows and little tiny cloth bats. Her boots are painted very stylish and adorned with lace and gold buttons. Etienne carries her matching black and silver pumpkin to light her way at night!

William...a very happy Pumpkinhead!!!

William seems to be a favorite as he always finds a reason to be such a happy little guy! William is part Paper Mache and part soft sculpture doll. William’s hat is fashioned as a leaf cap from paper clay and hand painted just like his head. He wears a wide ruffled collar with five layers of fabric that color coordinates with the rest of his attire. His fashionable shirt is in a green pumpkin themed fabric with a contrasting closure of black lace, black and orange decorative trim and shiny glass beads. Popping out of his sleeves are leaves trimmed with black and orange fabric and shiny black tinsel.



His orange and black checked pants are fastened with a shiny ribbon and cuffed in a coordinating but contrasting fabric. His little boots are larger around than his skinny little legs, and are accented with black, shiny tinsel and little bright faceted gold beads. William carries a rather Large Jack-o-lantern to light his way at night.

Eudora the Witch

Hi Everyone!

I just want to share with you updated pictures of Eudora, taken by a professional photographer friend of my brother in law's. He used a light box and very special camera and they turned out much better than anything I've taken!!!

Fall Snowman....First Frost

Just wanted to let ya'll see this little guy...he's one of my new favorites. He will have accessories as he is still in progress.
I have fallen in love with Paper clay (paper mache) and don't see it stopping anytime soon!!!

Eugenia...A new Creation

HI everyone! Just wanted to to catch a peek at one of my new Halloween creations.
I have recently been designing in a new medium, paper mache. Be on the look out for more of these as I go along.
I have not starting selling these yet, but will in the not to distant future. I hope you like her. I feel really free when working in this type of clay....it's very workable and forgiving.

Jannie...In My Heart's Pocket

More on Jannie...I am delighted to present to you, a Boggy Bottom Bayou Blackwater Bear. Boggy Bottom Bayou’s Blackwater Bears are a combination of my long love for everything prim and my even longer love for bears (way back when I was little!). They are so fun to make and equally hard to part with as they take on their own little personalities. Thank you for stopping and having a look at Her!

Jannie’s’s fur is a sparse density pile 1/2 inch long, curly, matted, old Kaki mohair with a medium tan backing. and gives her a wonderfully warm and well loved appearance. She is 14 inches tall.

She has fully jointed (arms, legs and head), using durable discs, tap bolts, and lock-nuts. Her eyes are imported from Germany and are of hand-blown glass. Jannie’s nose is stitched layer over layer with coral colored pearl cotton and then waxed for an aged look. Paw pads are made from Kaki Merino wool felt with hand-stitched claws. She also has the characteristic hump in her back common to many antique bears.
Jannie is all ready for Valentine’s Day with a prim heart and and vest. Her ruffled collar accents the colors in her outfit.

The Hag and the Snowman

I never thought a hag and a snowman could look so much alike...actually, the snowman gave me tha idea for the hag! I gave the Hag a tongue and she said she wanted teeth too! I said nothing doin! I think she's a little unhappy with me! LOL!

Gonna give this guy a roundish plump body...don't cha think? Or he could be on a body like Mort's and be a Dapper Snowman? Whay do you think?

Here they are, getting along like two peas in a pod....or dryfoam block for that matter!

Now this is just held in place to give you a peek at what is to come. Oh OH!!! Her nose is al bit crooked! Have to do some adjustments!

Boy I didn't realize how much ya'll liked my Sheppard/Moses...I am humbled by your comments. Thank you so very much...truth us, I never finished him before Christmas. Then my oldest son came home from Colorado and Christmas etc...I have all the Elements I need to finish him: a beehive bobbin with a battery powered prim taper (to catch the twinkle of the suspended star, a hay bale amd even a prim sign that reads "Do you see what I see". I'm thinking of offering him for a Christmas in July sale...what do you all think?

My Whimsie Wanderings

HI everybody!!! Sorry to have been away so long. Christmas was great. My oldest son, Allan was home from Grad School (UC at Boulder, CO!) My two boys are so close, they are best friends and Matthew (a senior at USF) was delighted to be with his brother again! Together, they are quite the clowns!

While I've been out, I have been a bit ill,but with the internet I used sick time very well! I have taken an online course in sculpting by Christy Meyers of CC's Whimsies, and before that a short tutorial by Brenda Sanker of the Vintage Polka Dot on old world Santa's. Here are some works in progress:

The Santa on the right is the one we made in class, the one on your left is one I experimented on my own. As you can see, there is work left to do and LOADS of practicing!!! In class we just were making ornaments, but I want to turn them into dolls! Surprize, Suprize!

Below are a couple of Characters out of my own head...Mortemor the Mortician and Harley the pumpkin man. I think you all know how much aI love Halloween!

A Very Early Easter Surprize...BJ Bunnie!

I am delighted to present to you an original Boggy Bottom Bayou artist bunny, designed and made by me, Carolyn Smith. His name is B.J.. I am not going to place a reserve on him to encourage bidding. So without further adieu, here is B.J.!

B.J.’s fur is a one inch curly, matted (for an older look) sparse, 1 inch Kaki Schulte mohair. His white whiskers and his cute fuzzy tail are made of one inch Stieff uses Schulte mohair on their famous Teddy Bears sold throughout the world for a hundred years!

He is 16 inches tall (not counting his ears!) and stands upright very easily as his feet are weighted with very tiny glass beads. He is fully jointed (arms, legs and head), using durable discs and lock-nuts. His eyes are imported from Germany and are of hand-blown glass. His nose is stitched layer over layer with coral colored pearled cotton. Paw pads are made of tan. 100% Merino wool with hand-stitched claws. He wears a primitive tan gingham vest that features a hand appliquéd bunny and carrots. There is even a carrot on his back left shoulder!

A gold metal bear button on his rump along with the Boggy Bottom Bayou tag and slogan “Get Swamped!” BJ’s “Little Bunnie Bum” has the fluffiest tail ever, made from string mohair.
