A little News to Catch Up!

Hi everybody! I had a little time and decided to let let you know a little more about what happened to me I am sorry to take so long before getting back in touch…as you know, I’ve been getting ready for my first big show and it is a 12-14 hour day, most days. Then, of all things…MY LEG BROKE!!! They can find no obvious cause! It was the big thigh bone…supposed to be the strongest bone in your body!!! My only symptoms were pain and the inability to walk without a walker or a wheelchair for three months! I went to the Dr. twice…got X-rayed…no sign of it! Then one day it snapped in two! Boy did I know it!!! Anyway to make a long story a little longer, once the full fracture was confirmed…they took me right to surgery and place a 2 foot rod and 6 inch bolt in me! I was one sick puppy…I bled out when the bone fractured all the way and had to receive two units of blood! I guess you could say I’m a real Vampire, just in time for Halloween!!!LOL! Now I am in the wheelchair learning to coordinate some kinda of walk (When trying to walk, I’m sure I look like “The Ministries of Silly Walks” graduate from Monte Python!) My muscles and nerves were all chopped up in the break…hence the uncoordinated movement…The Docs have gone back over the previous xrays and found out that their was NOTHING there to indicate a pending fracture! Wild!!! Wish I had a more interesting story to tell, like "I broke it sky diving" or "falling off a bucking horse"! But no...it just broke!!! Now...on to some fun! Here are some more sneak peeks of the Spirits in Sanford show! This is an example of my large paper ornaments that will be on my Spooky Tree at the SIS show!
This is my newest design and he was a lot of fun to make....I've not ever see anyone do a Candy Corn Head...so maybe I'm the first. He is a show exclusive and will be sold at the show first before I post him for sale anywhere else! At the show he is avaiable as an ornament or Spool Ghoul. Of course I have a feeling he will be in doll form for next year!
The guys are named Orvil and Wilber...you guessed it, they are brothers! To be considerate of those not able to attend the Spirits in Sanford show as a pre show special, I will offer them for sale from my blog (right here guys!!!) and may offer them on TDIPT for Occtober 15th. They are a couple of my favorites as I'm in LOVE with their festive polka dot ties! Orville striped pants) or Wilber (checked pants) may go home with you for 165.00 plus 15.00 travel fare in the continental USA (travel fare may be higher to other destinations). Please email me for any questions: carolynsmith906@gmail.com So very Sincerely, Carly

What a Week!!!

Well Friends, It's been quite a week... Last Thursday, I broke my femur (strongest bone in the body and also known as the thigh bone)!!! I, for the last 2 months, been experiencing pain in my hip going all the way down to my left knee. Said it might be a little arthritis. Went to a walker, then a wheelchair (I'm too young for this!) Two doctors saw me! My primary doc ordered an MRI which showed a full fracture! Sooo, off to Surgery right away (last Sunday) and home on Wednesday with a rod in my thigh bone! And of course...I sculpted in the hospital and other odd tasks I could work on at my bed.

Now I'm, home and have some work in progress photos to share with you. The show must go on!!!

This is Jeremy...a Fall Snowman. He is getting ready for the first frost of the Season!

Here is Whimbly. He looks like he's been holding his breath too long...turned purple on me! Actually...he's having an identity crisis...can't decide if he is an Eggplant or a Hubbard Squash!

Last, but not least, is Quincy, the Triclops...always seems to keep an eye on things! LOL!!!

Simon the Squash Head

Simon is part Paper Mache and part soft sculpture doll. He stands about 20-inches tall and about 13-inches when sitting. His body is made of muslin that has been stuffed and weighted for sitting. William’s arms and legs are detailed in acrylic paint and lightly wired for posing and holding very light objects. His legs can also be positioned to sit in different ways. In addition, he displays very well standing with the use of a doll stand. Sometimes, after shipping, the weight bag inside shifts a little and one may have to set the doll down with a little “thump” to reposition the weights.

Simon’s hat is fashioned as a leaf cap from paper clay and hand painted just like his head. He wears a wide ruffled collar with five layers of fabric that color-coordinate with the rest of his attire. His fashionable shirt is in a bright gold with purple flower fabric with a contrasting lapel of orange double ruffle and ribbon trim with shiny glass beads. Sleeves are embellished with purple lace that is edged in tiny green crystals. His purple plaid pants are cuffed with orange ruffle and match his lapel.

Simons Purple vest is his show piece! Felt flowers are adorned with hand beaded accents above satin stems. It is trimmed in metallic multi-colored rick-rack.
His little boots are larger around than his skinny little legs, and are accented with orange, shiny tinsel and little bright faceted gold beads. Simon carries a rather Large Jack-o-lantern to light his way at night.

He is avaiable exclusively this month on PFATT Martketplace At

Gourdon Squash Head- A work in Progress

I thought I'd share another one of my WIP photos. Gourdon is a lot of fun to work on! To me, he just seems like a fellow with a lot of personality, at least that what I'm shootin' for!

I've decided that Squash Heads are mischievous little characters who like nothing better than to scare carrots...yes, that's what I said. Sometimes they even pull them out of the ground! They never really hurt them, they just think scared carrots are incredibly funny! Squash Heads are known to emit a horrible Banshee sounding laugh that can be quite irritating whenever they scare a carrot.

But no worries, they never hurt the little fellows. Just scare them, laugh and put them down...not the hateful sort who cooks 'em in a pot.

Oh my...now see what I've done?...I be you want to see what a scared carrot looks like....stay tuned and you will find out.

Please let me know what you think of Gourdon so far as a value your comments greatly!
Thanks for sharing my day!

Etienne' Debuts for Screampunk!

Well, my latest paper clay head doll made her debut on Ebay for The EHAG - PFATT
Steampunk Challenge. She was a fun piece to do...what with combining Victorian with a kind of Techno Halloween Witch theme. I hope you like her. Please leave comments to let me know... To find her on Ebay just put PFATT in the search and she will be there among the other PFATT offerings. Now for some pics!

Along with her description and pics, I have written a silly little verse:

ETIENNE
A Sassy old hag from the Bayou,
smiled as she chanted her Voodoo.
She returned to the swamp with a "THUD" and a "STOMP",
Set down bags of bones for her menu!!!

Etienne is part paper mac he and part soft sculpture doll. She stands 19 inches tall with her hat on and about 13 inches when sitting. Her body is made of muslin that has been stuffed and weighted for sitting. Etienne‘s arms are detailed in acrylic paint and lightly wired for posing and holding very light objects. She wears silver gloves that have been painted and beaded.

Her white curly hair is pulled to the side and tied with a stylish silver bow that has the cutest little cloth bat on it. In addition, her hair is streaked with grey. Etienne‘s hat is made of felt that gives it a velvety texture, accented with lace, ribbon, and beads. This unique “Screampunk” witches’ hat is very stylish and features such items as gears, a time piece and skulls with its feather plume are all the rage!

Her legs are painted with black and silver striped stockings and skinny little boots adorned with ribbon and beads to match her outfit. Etienne‘s legs can also be positioned to sit in different ways. Although she displays very well standing with the use of a doll stand, I prefer to sit her and pose her legs crossed Sometimes, after shipping, the weight bag inside shifts a little and one may have to set the doll down with a little “thump” to reposition the weights.

Her bodice is made of a velvety fabric that features a kind of Harlequin pattern in sliver and metallic gold. She wears a feather boa collar and lapel adorned with silver and black lace, ribbon and gold beads.

Her over skirt is of silver spider webbed fabric that is flounced all around and accented with skeleton keys. The rest of her dress a metallic black fabric skirt featuring silver metallic skull and cross bones. Etienne‘s gathered ruffled pantaloons are adorned with gold bows and little tiny cloth bats. Her boots are painted very stylish and adorned with lace and gold buttons. Etienne carries her matching black and silver pumpkin to light her way at night!

William...a very happy Pumpkinhead!!!

William seems to be a favorite as he always finds a reason to be such a happy little guy! William is part Paper Mache and part soft sculpture doll. He stands 20-inches tall and about 13-inches when sitting.

William’s hat is fashioned as a leaf cap from paper clay and hand painted just like his head. He wears a wide ruffled collar with five layers of fabric that color coordinates with the rest of his attire. His fashionable shirt is in a green pumpkin themed fabric with a contrasting closure of black lace, black and orange decorative trim and shiny glass beads. Popping out of his sleeves are leaves trimmed with black and orange fabric and shiny black tinsel.

His orange and black checked pants are fastened with a shiny ribbon and cuffed in a coordinating but contrasting fabric. His little boots are larger around than his skinny little legs, and are accented with black, shiny tinsel and little bright faceted gold beads. William carries a rather Large Jack-o-lantern to light his way at night.
